Session Two: How To Grow, The Bible and Prayer
I. The Bible
All God wanted us to know about Himself, the way to heaven, and how to live the Christian life is recorded in God’s Word, the Bible. He so supervised the writing that even the very words are inspired (God-breathed) and without error. (see II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21).

II. The Importance of the Bible

Why don’t you pray as David did in Psalms 119:18, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law,” each time before you study or read God’s Word.

IV. Prayer
Through the Bible, God speaks to you…in prayer, you speak to God. Prayer is the most wonderful and
powerful tool in the Christian’s life. Every believer has access to God Himself through prayer. When we have a need, God is always there waiting to hear from us and to grant our request. You should determine to be a Christian of prayer. If you don’t ask, He can’t answer, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.” James 4:2

V. Some Bible promises about prayer.

VI. How to Pray
When we pray, the position of the body is unimportant compared to the attitude of the heart. We must realise that our hearts must be in a right relationship with God: “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” Psalms 66:18.

In Matthew 6:5-15, Jesus Christ taught a lesson on prayer. Let’s look at it:

Session Three: Public Profession and Baptism
I. Public Profession
The first thing the Lord wants us to do after we are saved is to confess Him. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” Romans 10:10-11. You should immediately tell your friends and loved ones of your salvation; and the best place to make your salvation public is in church, where people will understand what has happened to you. If you have not already done so, plan to go forward at the next church service invitation, and ask the pastor to make it public that you have been born again. Follow Paul’s example and say, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ”, Romans 1:16.

II. Baptism
The first command for a believer to obey after being born again is baptism (see Acts 10:47-48). Baptism is a picture of what has happened inside. Just as a wedding ring does not make one married, but shows others that one is married; baptism does not save, but shows others that one is saved.

Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion. It had to be to properly picture Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The word baptize means “to immerse”.

Session Four: The Local Church
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25.

Church attendance may be the single most important item for growth in a Christian’s life. Jesus Christ founded the church and said, “upon this rock I will build my church,” Matthew 16:18. God expects us to be faithful to church, “It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4:2. Someday our rewards in heaven will be based on our “faithfulness”, and we should strive to have Christ say on judgment day, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” Matthew 25:21.

I. The Importance of the Local Church – God refers to the local church as the “house of God” and the “pillar and ground of the truth” in I Timothy 3:15.

Session Five: Temptation, Separation, and Victory
The Bible tells us to “Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” This will only happen as we recognise temptation and it’s source (Satan, the world, and our flesh), as we separate from worldliness, and as we continually live the Spirit-filled life.

I. Temptation

Session Six: Using the Tongue for Bad or Good
I. The power of the tongue.

VIII. Witnessing – You Need A Plan
It is important that you tell as many people as you can about their need for Jesus Christ. To do this you should tell what has happened to you, and you need a PLAN.

A simple plan for witnessing to others is to tell them that all are sinners (Romans 3:10,23) and cannot save themselves (Ephesians 2:8-9); that there is a penalty for sin (Romans 6:23), which is eternity in Hell (Revelation 20:14-15); that Jesus Christ paid the penalty that all men owe (Romans 5:8); and that by trusting Jesus Christ as their only hope for heaven (believing ON Him – John 6:47, and receiving Him – John 1:12) they can be saved (Romans 10:9-10,13), and become children of God (John 1:12).

Remember that God’s Word has the power (Hebrews 4:12), and that the Holy Ghost will convict the hearts (John 16:8-11). Use the Word, be filled with the Spirit, and trust the results to God!
