Session Two: How To Grow, The Bible and Prayer
I. The Bible
All God wanted us to know about Himself, the way to heaven, and how to live the Christian life is recorded in God’s Word, the Bible. He so supervised the writing that even the very words are inspired (God-breathed) and without error. (see II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21).
II. The Importance of the Bible
A. God does not want the Bible _______ or _________. Revelation 22:18-19

C. We are ____________ by the incorruptible seed of the Word. I Peter 1:23
D. The Word of God can discern the _____ and ______ of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
III. What the Bible Will Do For A Christian
Christians are commanded to study the Bible (II Timothy 2:15). According to the Bible, only Christians can understand it (see I Corinthians 2:14). The Holy Ghost, who lives inside of a Christian, guides him into truth (John 14:26; 16:13-14). Why don’t you pray as David did in Psalms 119:18, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law,” each time before you study or read God’s Word.
A. As new babes with milk, we __________ by the Word of God. I Peter 2:2

E. The Word of God gives _________________________. Psalms 119:99
F. The Word of God _______________________________. Psalms 119:105
IV. Prayer
Through the Bible, God speaks to you…in prayer, you speak to God. Prayer is the most wonderful and
powerful tool in the Christian’s life. Every believer has access to God Himself through prayer. When we have a need, God is always there waiting to hear from us and to grant our request. You should determine to be a Christian of prayer. If you don’t ask, He can’t answer, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.” James 4:2
V. Some Bible promises about prayer.
A. Matthew 7:8 says that if we ______, we shall receive.
B. John 14:13-14 tells us that the things we ask _________, we shall receive.
C. According to I John 5:14 , anything we ask ______________ He will hear.
D. One of the keys to answered prayer is to ask _______________ , according to Matthew 21:22. We must have ____________ (Hebrews 11:6).
E. God promises the _______ of God to those who take everything to Him in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7
VI. How to Pray
When we pray, the position of the body is unimportant compared to the attitude of the heart. We must realise that our hearts must be in a right relationship with God: “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” Psalms 66:18.
In Matthew 6:5-15, Jesus Christ taught a lesson on prayer. Let’s look at it:
A. In verses 5-6, the Lord tells us to pray where? _____________________ God wants us to meet Him in a private place every day. You should set aside that special time and place for you.
B. In verse 7-8, the Lord says not to use ___________________________.
C. In verse 9, the Lord shows how we are to approach God, recognising who He is, our heavenly Father. In Colossians 4:2 and Philippians 4:6, we are told to pray with ____________________.
D. In verse 10, the Lord teaches that our prayers must be consistent with what? __________________
E. In verse 11, the Lord is teaching us to pray for our daily _____________. (see I Timothy 6:8)
F. In verse 12, He is teaching us to ask for _____________. From I John 1:9, what must we do to get our daily sins taken care of so our fellowship with the Father is not hindered? _________.
G. Verse 12 also teaches us to _____________ others. (also see Mark 11:25). From Ephesians 6:18, we should also ____________ for others.
H. In verse 13, we are taught to pray about the area of _______________. (also see Matthew 26:41)
Discussion Questions:
1) Has the Bible been an important part of your life since you were born again?
2) Do you read or study the Bible every day?
3) Do you believe that a Christian can grow without the Bible?
4) Do you spend time with God every morning in prayer?
5) What have you resolved to do as a result of studying this lesson?
Session Three: Public Profession and Baptism
I. Public Profession
The first thing the Lord wants us to do after we are saved is to confess Him. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” Romans 10:10-11. You should immediately tell your friends and loved ones of your salvation; and the best place to make your salvation public is in church, where people will understand what has happened to you. If you have not already done so, plan to go forward at the next church service invitation, and ask the pastor to make it public that you have been born again. Follow Paul’s example and say, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ”, Romans 1:16.
II. Baptism
The first command for a believer to obey after being born again is baptism (see Acts 10:47-48). Baptism is a picture of what has happened inside. Just as a wedding ring does not make one married, but shows others that one is married; baptism does not save, but shows others that one is saved.
A. In Matthew 28:18-19, what is commanded after teaching all nations?
______________________
B. When the first sermon was preached after Christ went to heaven, what was the very next thing the people did who “received the Word” in Acts 2:41?

Acts 8:36-38?
________________________________________________________________________
D. How soon after salvation was the jailor baptized in Acts 16:30-33?
________________________
Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion. It had to be to properly picture Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The word baptize means “to immerse”.
E. When Jesus, our example (John 13:15), was baptized, how do we know He was immersed in Matthew 3:16 and Mark 1:9-10?
____________________________________________________
F. Why was John baptizing in Aenon in John 3:23?
______________________________________
G. What should be our motive for obeying the Lord and getting baptized according to John 14:15?
________________________________________________________________________
Discussion Questions:
1) Have you been baptized by immersion since you were saved?
2) If not, why not?
3) Have you made your profession public?
4) What have you resolved to do as a result of studying this lesson?

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25.
Church attendance may be the single most important item for growth in a Christian’s life. Jesus Christ founded the church and said, “upon this rock I will build my church,” Matthew 16:18. God expects us to be faithful to church, “It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4:2. Someday our rewards in heaven will be based on our “faithfulness”, and we should strive to have Christ say on judgment day, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” Matthew 25:21.

V. Witnessing – The Greatest Use of Our Tongue
God commands us as His people to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15. Nothing will bring more joy in your Christian life than winning others to the Saviour, so they can know the wonderful new life that you have found!
A. Witnessing – God’s Command

VIII. Witnessing – You Need A Plan
It is important that you tell as many people as you can about their need for Jesus Christ. To do this you should tell what has happened to you, and you need a PLAN.
A simple plan for witnessing to others is to tell them that all are sinners (Romans 3:10,23) and cannot save themselves (Ephesians 2:8-9); that there is a penalty for sin (Romans 6:23), which is eternity in Hell (Revelation 20:14-15); that Jesus Christ paid the penalty that all men owe (Romans 5:8); and that by trusting Jesus Christ as their only hope for heaven (believing ON Him – John 6:47, and receiving Him – John 1:12) they can be saved (Romans 10:9-10,13), and become children of God (John 1:12).
Remember that God’s Word has the power (Hebrews 4:12), and that the Holy Ghost will convict the hearts (John 16:8-11). Use the Word, be filled with the Spirit, and trust the results to God!
Discussion Questions:
1) Have you ever been hurt as a result of someone’s tongue?
2) Do you ask God for help with your tongue?
